Set up your domain name by yourself (advanced)
If you choose this option, you need to click: I want to manage my own domain.
Important information
You will be in charge of managing the domain name with your registrar and will need to set up its DNS zone so that it points toward our server.
If an error occurs during this process, your website may no longer be live (not visible to visitors). Additionally, only CNAME records are accepted. Other cases (type A) cannot be used.
Setting it up
Head over to the DNS zone on your registrar's interface. It is important to distinguish the DNS zone from the Server DNS, which looks like this:We recommend you not to change anything in the DNS Server as it is generally already well configured.
In your DNS zone, add a record of the type CNAME such that:
Input | Type | TTL | Target |
www.mywebsite.com | CNAME | 86400 | springly-2.azurefd.net. |
he domain target always needs to be set as "springly-2.azurefd.net.". For example, for the "Veterans of Texas" the target will be "springly-2.azurefd.net." and not "veterans-of-texas.com". The value is updated regularly, but there is no need to modify this if the domain is set up correctly.
The last point of registration is usually filled on automatically and/or mandatory. It is sometimes blocked by the registrar and must in this case be removed.
Once added, the record will be updated depending on its TTL period ("Time To Live"), expressed in seconds. There may therefore be a whole day (86400 seconds) before it is taken into account.
Frequent errors
Be sure to configure your fields and steer away from some frequent errors, which are as follows:
The sub-domain "www" is missing in the Input column:
Input | Type | TTL | Target |
mywebsite.com | CNAME | 86400 | springly-2.azurefd.net. |
The target is incorrect:
Input | Type | TTL | Target |
www.mywebsite.com | CNAME | 86400 | www IN CNAME springly-2.azurefd.net. |
Type A records need to be deleted from the sub-domain"www" :
Input | Type | TTL | Target |
mywebsite.com | A | 86400 | 12.34.56.78 |
Be careful not to put the CNAME into the root (without the www) as this will redirect everything, even your emails.
From your registrar, you can create a redirect of the type 301 from your website (mywebsite.com) to your subdomain target (www.mywebsite.com). When you enter mywebsite.com, you will be redirected towards www.mywebsite.com.
Validate the setup on Springly (mandatory)
If you set up your domain name by yourself, you will have to finalize this setting in the software's interface. This action sends a request to our services, which will carry out the last necessary steps (in particular, the installation of the SSL certificate).
Head over to the Website > Settings and Themes > Domain Name page. Here, choose the option I have a domain name, and then click the button I want to set up my own Domain Name.
You then simply need to complete the 3 steps:
