This article explains how to cancel a transaction.
- Cancel a credit card transaction
- Cancel an offline transaction (cheque, cash or other)

Cancel a credit card transaction
It is not possible to cancel or refund a transaction paid for online (by credit card) that has issued a tax receipt.
On a transaction paid online with a tax receipt issued, if you click on one of the Delete All or Refund All buttons, a message will explain that this action is not possible.
In this case, here's how to proceed to correct the shot :
- "Cancel" the tax receipt by sending an e-mail/letter (important to have a written trace), to inform the donor that the receipt has been canceled;
- Issue a new tax receipt (by adding a donation and its payment manually). This new tax receipt will then have a new number.
A tax receipt must have a unique receipt number, so you cannot reuse the number of a tax receipt that has been canceled.
You also have 2 impacts:
- From a cash flow point of view, you'll need to make the reimbursement by a means external to the software (check, bank transfer, etc.);
- From an accounting point of view, you will have to make a "credit note" on the donation (here is an example). article on how to enter a credit note).

Cancel an offline transaction (check, cash, or other)
On the relevant transaction sheet, you can delete it by clicking on the Delete All button on the right-hand side of your page.
The following message appears on your screen:
When you delete the transaction, the tax receipt will not be deleted, but archived with a note "Cancelled".
Once your action has been confirmed :
- The transaction will be deleted from the list of registrants;
- The accounting entry relating to this sale will be automatically deleted;
- The tax receipt previously linked to the transaction is updated with "Cancelled";
- The transaction is deleted from the donation/membership/purchases section of the linked member's profile;
- An email is sent to the member linked to the transaction explaining that the tax receipt is no longer available.
IA user can't deletea transaction, only an administrator can do so.
