Before starting
This article presents the various options available for setting up a domain name for your Springly site. It covers the following points:
Useful terms to know
Domain name
The domain name is the address used to access a website once entered in the navigation bar. Springly's domain name is, for example, "springly.org".
An Internet address therefore consists of:
- A suffix indicating its nature or location, such as ''.fr'' or ''.com'' .
- A prefix (subdomain) for example: "www" (world wide web)
- A domain name.
The domain name allows you to personalize access to your site via an identifier that reflects its content. It also encourages search engine optimization.
Registrar and host
It's important to distinguish between these two types of service provider, especially since registrar and hosting functions can sometimes be combined:
- A registrar is responsible for reserving and administering a domain name. The best-known registrars are OVH, Gandi and GoDaddy.
- A hosting provider is responsible for the servers on which the services associated with a domain name (website, e-mail, etc.) are hosted.
Domain name management options
There are several options to choose from. These concern:
- Buying a domain name
- Domain name transfer
- Setting up a domain name
They can be summarized as follows:
Whichever option you choose, you'll still need to visit your platform to validate your request or finalize the procedure.
First, go to the domain name management page
From your administration area, go to Website > Settings and Themes. Then click on Domain name .
You will then be redirected to the page with the various domain name management options.
Buying a domain name
When you use Springly to create your website, you can:
1. Buy your own domain name - You buy your domain name yourself, or you can reuse it if you already own it. You'll then have the choice of entrusting us with its configuration or carrying it out without any intervention on our part.
2. Let Springly take care of it for you - Purchasing a domain name through Springly will cost you from 20 USD per year. We'll also take care of setting up the domain name.
The process of buying a domain name is explained in more detail in the article Get a domain name for my site.
Transferring your domain name to Springly
You can transfer the management of an existing domain name from 20 USD per year.
It will then be transferred from your registrar to that of Springly (Gandi), and we'll set its parameters. The operation can take up to 15 days.
With this option, you no longer have direct access to the management of your domain name.
We cannot perform email , htaccess, or specific redirections between pages. Note also that your parameters (e-mail/redirections/other) will be overwritten by Gandi's.
Setting up a domain name
Setting the domain name, via its DNS zone, allows you to point the domain name to a specific address corresponding to your Springly site.
- It can be carried out by Springly. You will be billed a fee of 60 USD for the setup.
- You can set the parameters without any intervention on our part.
We advise you not to set up your site yourself, as bad handling could render your site unavailable .
In the event of a problem, we invite you to contact your domain name manager (registrar) or to submit a configuration request (paying option). However, we don't do settings for AMEN and ONLINE and BlueHost registrars.
